Moline Special Olympics basketball team advances to state championship
The Moline High School Special Olympics basketball team is on its way to the state tournament for the second straight year after winning the district championship in Bloomington on Jan. 17.
The nine-member team is the only high school Special Olympics basketball team in the Quad Cities area.
“Our Special Olympics basketball team is so excited to make it to the state competition two years in a row,” Jerilyn Hocker, the team's coach, said. “The excitement, determination and teamwork they show on and off the court makes me so proud to be part of their continued success.”
The state-level competition will be held March 11 and 12 at Illinois State University in Bloomington.
