Two music professors from Western Illinois University (WIU) recently visited Myanmar to offer professional development training to fellow music teachers via the International Language and Business Center (ILBC) in Yangon.

School of Music Director Tammie Walker and Associate Professor Richard Cangro visited the country in November to teach a series of six-hour classes on piano pedagogy and music education to the center's 26 teachers.

"Some of the most memorable times were when we would come back from lunch and find the teachers already in the room singing together or performing for each other," Cangro said. "The music never stopped for them."

The visit ended with a piano and trumpet recital among the teachers turned students, which ended with a chorus performance in honor of the visiting professors.

The visit by Walker and Cangro adds to a developing professional exchange between ILBC and WIU. WIU officials first visited the country in 2013, followed by visits to Macomb from two ILBC groups of teachers in 2014 and 2015.
