Moline Youth Commission discusses donations at meeting

Meeting 04

Members of the City of Moline Youth Commission met Thursday, March 17.

The commission funds projects, programs and activities that provide the city's youth with opportunities. Members meet at 4 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month in the Platinum Room of the Moline Public Library, 3210 41st St.

 Meeting called to order

The meeting began at 4:06 p.m.

 Roll Call

Commissioners:

Present: Elizabeth Finch, Greg Masias, Jan Erikson-Vroman, Janet Zam, and Jane Koenig

Absent: Lynne Meeske and Greg Johnson

Staff. Elizabeth McKenzie

 Approval of Minutes

Commissioner Zam made a motion to approve the November 19, 2015 minutes and Commissioner Erikson-Vroman seconded. Motion unanimously carried.

 Presentation

Angela Baker spoke on behalf of Moline High School Project Graduation. Project Graduation is an all-night event held at Two Rivers YMCA for the graduating class of Moline High School. They are requesting a donation to help purchase food, entertainment, and prizes. The date of the event this year is May 27, 2016 and it will mark the 30" anniversary of the event.

 Donations

Commissioner Zam made a motion to donate $300 to Moline High School Project Graduation and Commissioner Finch seconded. Motion unanimously carried. Elizabeth McKenzie will prepare a voucher and issue the donation.

Commissioner Koenig made a motion to donate $300 to John Deere Middle School WEB and Commissioner Masias seconded. Motion unanimously carried. Elizabeth McKenzie will prepare a voucher and issue the donation.

Commissioner Koenig made a motion to donate $300 to Wilson Middle School WEB and Commissioner Masias seconded. Motion unanimously carried. Elizabeth McKenzie will prepare a voucher and issue the donation.

 Other—Mayor Scott Raes was in attendance to discuss the number of members on the commission and funding. Mayor Raes stated, per the Moline Code of Ordinances, the commission may have a subcommittee, composed of members or nonmembers of the commission, to aid and assist in the work of the commission. Mayor Raes also encouraged the commissioners to attend a Moline City Council meeting to introduce themselves to the aldermen and tell about the organizations the Youth Commission helps with their donations.

8. Adjournment

Commissioner Koenig made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Commissioner Finch seconded. The meeting adjourned at 4:45 p.m.
