Augustana's football team has been picked to finish fifth in the College Conference of Illinois and
Wisconsin (CCIW) this season.
In a poll published on the league's website, the Vikings received 39 points, just behind Carthage (41)
for fourth place. Two-time defending league champion Wheaton, which went 7-0 in CCIW play in
2015, was picked to repeat this season, edging North Central 61-60 in points. Wheaton received five
votes for first place, while North Central received four.
Illinois Wesleyan was third with 49 points. The rest of the poll had North Park in sixth (25), Carroll in
seventh (21), Millikin in eighth (15) and Elmhurst in ninth (13).
The league's head coaches voted on the poll.
Augustana is coming off a 4-6 season that included a 3-4 record in CCIW play. The Vikings open their
2016 campaign against Mount St. Joseph at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, in Cincinnati.
