Food, fellowship and fun combined to make a Lincoln Day Dinner in Moline an honest-to-goodness good time, Mike Steffen, chairman of the Rock Island County Republicans, said in his recent newsletter.

Steffen said that despite a disappointing no-show by Gov. Bruce Rauner, the event at the Vikings Club was enjoyed by all, especially Joe Carroll, who won the Getz-Frels Award for outstanding young Republican, and Jerry Schreiner, who won the Chairman’s Award, which is given to an individual who demonstrates outstanding work to promote the Republican cause in the county.

Steffen also noted some upcoming events, including the Annual Colona Memorial Day Parade, which will take place on May 28. The parade will begin on Second Avenue at 2 p.m., and he encouraged attendees to arrive by noon to find places.

The group has also planned a movie night for May 17, which will replace the monthly central committee meeting. Dinesh D’Souza’s Hillary’s America, will be shown, and food and drinks will be available.
