McCombie takes aim at proposed gun dealership licensing

Rep. Tony McCombie (R-Savanna) has joined forces with two gun dealers in opposing the proposed Gun Dealership Licensing Act.

"I will vote NO for SB 1657,” McCombie posted on her Facebook page. “I oppose this legislation along side Rock River Armory and Springfield Armory!"

Rock River Arms, located in Colona, and Springfield Armory, located in Geneseo, issued statements opposing the bill, which were published on the gun enthusiast website The Shooting Wire recently.

SB1657 would require gun dealers — encompassing those selling, leasing or transferring firearms — to acquire a license and would create a state licensing board. Dealers would be able to employ dealership agents, who would not need a license, but the dealers would still need to one.

The bill garnered the support of the Illinois Firearms Manufacturers Association (IFMA), a trade group that both Rock River Arms and Springfield Armory are a part of, but the two dealers made it clear that in this case, they do not agree with the group.

Rock River categorized the legislation as a threat to gun rights, while the Springfield Armory called it an unnecessary and harmful overreach.
