Stewart's program has voracious readers gorging on some summer books

Library kids(1000)

Grade school students in Northwest Illinois could turn into "Readasauruses" this summer thanks to a program being offered by Rep. Brian Stewart (R-Freeport).

Stewart challenged youngsters in first through fifth grades to finish eight books by July 29 in his “Become a Readasaurus” summer reading club. Those who did earned an invitation to an ice cream party.

Books of more than 150 pages count as two books. As they completed each of their books, the children had to have their parents or guardians sign off on a reading club brochure as verification. The brochures were available at libraries throughout Northwest Illinois, as well as on Stewart’s website.

Completed brochures were due back in Stewart's office by July 29. Besides the ice cream event at the Union Dairy at the end of the summer, the readers will also receive a certificate from the Illinois House of Representatives.
