The Current Iowa hotel in downtown Davenport
The Current Iowa, the latest in the Marriott Autograph Collection of hotels, has opened in downtown Davenport with the promise of a unique art-focused experience, according to a press release.
The Current sits less than a block from the Figge Art Museum and offers panoramic views of the Mississippi River and the Quad Cities. It occupies the last building completed by architect Daniel Brunham and features artwork from Midwest artists like Rob Westrich, Nancy Purington, Michael Meilahn and Jennifer Hayes.
Marriott’s Autograph Collection is a group of boutique, luxury outlets owned and managed by St. Louis’ Innkeeper Hospitality Services (I.H.S.) LLC. The Current boasts nine floors and 78 rooms, 30 of which are suites.
It has two restaurants and private dining rooms, which The Current hopes will become integral parts of the Quad Cities’ social scene. UP, one of the hotel’s restaurants, is on the roof with an outdoor lounge area and excellent views of the Mississippi River. VIVA, the other restaurant, features floor-to-ceiling windows. It also has three meeting rooms, two fitness rooms and a swimming pool with an oversized hot tub, as well as access to a full spa.
A formal ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on July 26.
