Rock Island County Board Minority Caucus met May 10.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

Meeting was called to order at 6:20 pm on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 on the third floor of the County Building, 1504 3rd Avenue, Rock Island, Illinois. Caucus members present: Bob Westpfhal, Dr. Rod Simmer, DeWayne Cremeens, Drue Mielke, and Robert Reagan. Mike Steffen joined the meeting via cell phone. Also in attendance was Rock Island County Board Member Scott Terry.

There were no public comments, discussion ensued regarding a committee-of-the-whole for forest preserve. Also discussed were the issues of status of stipend resolutions, a balance budget for Rock Island County.

It was mentioned that there was concern regarding the health department regarding a letter that was drafted and sent.

Member Bob Westpfhal informed the caucus that there was a burglary at the residence of Fred Ruth, Mercer County Board Member

Mike Steffen discussed the possibility of combining the offices of County Clerk and Recorder. Mr. Steffen cited Ogle County as an example. Mr. Steffen also discussed with County Administrator Dave Ross. Mike also brought this to the Finance committee. Mr. Dewayne Cremeens felt that both departments are large and merging into another department because they are physically separated it does not seem feasible. Rod Simmer stated that he didn’t feel it would work because both departments are bare bones. Maybe save $20,000 on one salary. Mr. Drue Mielke mentioned that that would be a decrease lose an elected official salary? But the position would still be there so there would not be

At 7:05 pm, Bob Westpfhal motioned to adjourn. Rod Simmer seconded.
