Swanson reaches out to help area veterans with resource fairs

Army 1

Rep. Dan Swanson (R-Alpha) will host a series of free Veterans’ Resources Fairs to help connect local community members with assistance agencies and organizations, according to a press release.

“As a veteran and veteran advocate myself, I know it can be a sometimes daunting task to cut the red tape put in front of our returning heroes," Swanson said in the press release. "Helping veterans and area residents to be able to connect with a real, live person from these agencies, face-to-face, is an important aspect to their getting the help and assistance they need."

The fairs will include representatives from state, county and local government agencies that offer programs for and assistance to veterans. Swanson’s staff will also be on hand to field questions and concerns about legislative matters, and refreshments will be provided.

The fairs will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m, with the first scheduled for Aug. 29 at the Aledo VFW. A Galesburg fair will take place on Aug. 30 at the American Legion Post and a Princeton fair is set for Aug. 31 at the Bureau County Metro Center.

“Even if you don’t have a specific concern or are not a veteran, these resources fairs may be helpful in finding out more information on services and programs in your community, that’s why I would invite any person interested to come out and join us at one of these exciting events,” Swanson said.
