City of Silvis Playground and Recreation Board met Jan. 10.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

Members present: Bruce Nelson, Bob Roman and Carrie Toland

Members absent: Juan Escontrias

Also present: Jim Grafton, Park Lead Dave Hays and Resident, Chris Baker

Bob Roman called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm.

Bruce Nelson made a motion to accept the minutes from December as written. Motion seconded by Carrie Toland. All ayes – motion carried.

Bob Roman read the bills.

B&B Drain Hi-Nee Huts $100.00

Mid-American Energy $146.06

Speed Connect/Security Cameras $245.00

Zenon Company $1383.00

Global Wireless $594.00

Total January Expenses $2468.34

Carrie Toland made a motion to pay all bills for the previous month. Motion seconded by Bruce Nelson. All ayes – motion carried.

Old business:

− Schadt Park concession stand: Bob Roman made a new design and the board likes the updated layout. Carrie Toland made a motion to have Jim Grafton further investigate the cost of the design. Motion seconded by Bruce Nelson. All ayes – motion carried.

− Ice skating Rink: The rink is not yet open due to the unseasonably warm weather. The name of the rink will be Silvis Ice at Schadt Park.

− Dog Park: Continued discussion on alternative locations. Bruce will be speaking to the owners of Franks Pizzeria to determine their willingness to lease out a small parcel of land behind the restaurant.

− Volleyball: The winter schedule is set and arrangements are made with the school. The rules have been modified to require that you must by 16+ to be in the gym, instead of 18+.

New business:

− Chris Baker will be sworn in prior to the next meeting to fill the vacant spot on the board.

− Jim Grafton asked the board to pay $1161 for the recent repainting of 9 benches from Phipps Prairie Park. Bruce Nelson made a motion to pay for the benches. Motion seconded by Carrie Toland. All ayes – motion carried.

− Jim Grafton also requested $2540 for half of the new furnace for the house at Phipps Phase 2. Bruce Nelson made a motion to subtract this amount from the $50,000 budget for Phipps improvements. Bob Roman seconded the motion. All ayes – motion carried.

− Reviewed maintenance schedule for 2019.

− Dave Hays requested permission to purchase new flag poles for Friendship and Schadt Park. Bob Roman made a motion to buy the flag poles. Motion seconded by Carrie Toland. All ayes – motion carried.

Agenda for next meeting:

− Schadt Park concession stand

− Dog park

− Request for resurfacing parking lot at Schadt park.

Bob Roman made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:35pm. Motion seconded by Bruce Nelson. All ayes – motion carried.
