Democratic Candidate Joan Padilla lost her election bid for District 71 House seat and conceded defeat to Republican incumbent Tony McCombie.

This was Padilla’s second attempt vying for the seat.

“For the second election in a row, I have knocked on over ten thousand doors, meeting many of you--the citizens of the 71st district--face-to-face,” she wrote on her Facebook page. “Some of you are old friends, and some of you have become new ones. You come from all walks of life, yet you all have the same thing in common: you want a prosperous, safe, and happy district for your families to call home in an uncertain American era.”

Padilla went on to state that this is not the end of her political aspirations.

“My first defeat did not deter me then, and this one does not deter me now,” she wrote, adding that she plans to remain active in her community.

“I will continue the hard work of making the 71st district a better place to live, however and whenever I can--especially when that means speaking up when I feel our representatives aren’t acting in our best interest. Thank you for trusting me enough to be your voice in challenging Representative McCombie. It has been an experience I will cherish for the rest of my life,” she wrote.
