City of Moline Traffic Engineering Committee met March 1

Here is the agenda provided by the committee:

1. Call to Order – Laura Klauer

2. Roll Call – Laura Klauer

3. Approval of minutes of the Traffic Engineering Committee meeting of February 1st, 2022.

4. Request to remove the traffic signal at the intersection of 7th Street and 18th Avenue and replace it with a 4-way stop.

Explanation: Request to remove this traffic signal and install a 4-way stop at the intersection of7th Street and 18th Avenue. Resident states this intersection does not seem to warrant a stop light. Resident also states that cars heading north/south that have a green light pay no attention to possible pedestrians at that intersection and drive down the road at a speed that is faster than is safe for a densely packed commercial corridor. Resident feels the intersection would be safer for everyone as a 4-way stop.

5. Request to change the southbound lanes at the intersection of 53rd Street and 34th Avenue.

Explanation: Request to change the southland lanes of the intersection of 53rd Street and 34th Avenue so the left lane is left/thru and the right lane is right turn only. Resident states this is an abnormal traffic pattern that requires drivers to zigzag in order to go straight. Resident is a neighbor and has seen several near accidents.

6. Request to prohibit parking on the north side of 36th Avenue from 41st Street east for 130 feet.

Explanation: Request to install no parking here to corner signs on the north side of 36th Avenue approximately 130’ east of 41st Street. Resident states that he has witnessed several almost accidents as cars turn off 41st Street onto 36th Avenue. He states it is one lane and cars park up to the stop sign.
