City of Moline Traffic Engineering Committee met March 5.

Here is the agenda provided by the committee:

1. Call to Order – Laura Klauer

2. Roll Call – Laura Klauer

3. Approval of minutes of the Traffic Engineering Committee meeting of February 6, 2024.

4. Request to move no parking sign on 41st Street south of 4th Avenue on the east side of street, further south due to congestion at intersection.

Explanation: Received message from unknown caller requesting the stop sign be moved further south due to bad traffic flow at the intersection of 41st Street and 4th Avenue. Current ordinance, Forty-first Street, on the east side, from Fourth Avenue south for a distance of 50 feet.

5. Resident concern with ling of sight issues at intersection of 8th Avenue and 36th Street.

Explanation: Resident in this area states she’s had many near misses at this intersection as she travels on 36th Street, approaching 8th Avenue. There are no stop signs at this intersection.

Any person with disabilities who wishes to attend the meeting who requires a special accommodation, or any other person requiring a special accommodation in attending the meeting, should notify the City Engineer’s Office, 524-2350, at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled meeting time.

6. Resident concerned with risk of crashes and pedestrian safety at the intersection of 53rd Street and 5th Avenue.

Explanation: A resident, present at the East End neighborhood meeting, states she lives on the corner and has witnessed a lot of motorists running the stop signs traveling east and west. She also states there are children that cross this intersection going to Franklin School.

This is a 4-way intersection with 3-way stop. North bound traffic does not stop. The 3 stop signs do notify motorists it’s a 3-way and northbound does not stop. Resident thinks people misunderstand the signs.

7. Request to change the intersection of 12th Street and 5th Avenue to an all-way stop.

Explanation: Chief Gault received a request on behalf of Mercado on Fifth, to change this intersection to an all-way stop. Metrolink also requests same. Stating this would help them drop off children at this intersection that are going to the Boys and Girls Club.
