FOIA Request to City of Colona Regarding New and Active Residential and Commercial Building Permits on October 30, 2024.

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Rock Island Today have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Colona. The request was made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.

The records requested are for all new residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, up until the present date. The specific fields we’ve asked for include the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester’s name, address where the work is being done, and contractor’s name.

In addition to this, we have also requested a list of all active residential and commercial building permits along with their current status. The same fields as mentioned above are required for these active permits as well.

Access to public records is crucial for us in fulfilling our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe that we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

We will continue to keep you updated on this matter as more information becomes available.
