FOIA Request to City Of Geneseo Finance Department Regarding City Sales Tax Records on October 31, 2024.

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Rock Island Today have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City Of Geneseo Finance Department. The request was sent on October 31, 2024.

The requested records pertain to city sales tax data from January 1, 2023, through October 31, 2024. Specifically, we have asked for a list of businesses that paid sales tax to the city during this period. The information sought includes each business’s name and type as well as the amount of sales tax each paid.

In addition to this detailed breakdown, we have also requested the total amount of sales tax that the city collected over the same timeframe.

Access to public records is crucial for us at Rock Island Today in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. We believe that our role in disseminating information qualifies us for a fee waiver as media professionals.

We await a response from the City Of Geneseo Finance Department and will keep our readers updated with any developments.
