FOIA Request to Galva City Council Regarding Council Members’ Information on October 15, 2024.

In our continuous effort to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Rock Island Today have sent a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) to the Galva City Council. The request, dated October 15, 2024, seeks information about all council members in electronic format.

The details requested include each council member’s name, title, year of appointment, term length (2 or 4 years), and term expiration date. This information is vital for our reporting as it allows us to keep the public informed about their elected representatives and their terms of service.

As a media organization dedicated to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe that access to such records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. In line with this belief, we have also requested a fee waiver as part of our application due to our role as a media entity disseminating important information to the public.

We await the response from the Galva City Council and will continue striving towards delivering transparent and accountable news coverage for our readers.
