On Saturday, volunteers gathered early to prepare for the Galesburg NAACP picnic and backpack distribution. The event began with breakfast for the setup crew, with Chef Dwight White preparing bacon and eggs. Later, hot dogs and hamburgers were grilled for attendees.
The purpose of the picnic was to provide young school-aged children with backpacks filled with school supplies as they get ready for the new school year. Organizers expressed appreciation to those who helped set up, participated in the event, or donated supplies, food, or drinks.
Swanson, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State House in 2023 to represent the state’s 71st House District, succeeding Donald L. Moffitt.
