The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) and the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal (OSFM) have issued a reminder for organizations and individuals planning fireworks displays to prioritize safety. They emphasize ensuring that vendors possess the necessary state licenses and certificates before conducting any fireworks shows.

According to OSFM regulations, consumer fireworks are only allowed in villages, counties, and municipalities where ordinances permitting such displays have been enacted. Only adults with permits from their local jurisdiction can purchase and display these approved consumer fireworks. Notably, handheld fireworks like firecrackers, roman candles, and bottle rockets remain prohibited for sale or use in Illinois.
