There have been 331,620 confirmed coronavirus cases in Illinois as of October 15, with 9,127 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Chicago (86,801 cases) and Cook County (72,234 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago’s death toll from the virus stands at 3,003, while Cook County recorded 2,329 deaths, according to the IDPH.

Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 6,531,009, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 66,289 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.

Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 156,264 were male and 169,980 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,900, while female deaths stood at 4,227.

Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 4,471 Asians, 4,471 whites, 2,268 African-Americans, 1,794 Hispanics, and 203 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
