State Representative Dan Swanson (R-Alpha) is set to hold two scam prevention seminars on September 10, offering advice from local law enforcement and the Illinois Attorney General’s office on how to avoid falling victim to scams.

“Far too many of us know someone who has fallen victim to a financial scam,” Swanson said. “Scammers will stop at nothing to separate you from your money, and they are always rolling out new and more clever scams to do so.”

The first seminar will take place at the Warren County History Museum in Monmouth from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., followed by a second session at the Alexis Community Center in Alexis from 11 a.m. to noon. Both events are free and open to the public.

Speakers will include Heather Calcara, community outreach specialist for the Attorney General’s office. Attendees will learn about current scams, methods for identifying them, and steps to take if targeted. The seminars are organized in partnership with Midwest Bank, Farmers State Bank of Western Illinois, and WRAM radio.

Residents can access additional updates about the General Assembly and details on future events through Rep. Swanson’s legislative website at repswanson.com.

Swanson was elected as a Republican representative for Illinois’ 71st House District in 2023, succeeding Donald L. Moffitt.
