There have been 25,366 confirmed coronavirus cases in Rock Island County as of Jan. 5, with 411 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Chicago (449,415 cases) and Cook County (433,765 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago’s death toll from the virus stands at 6,347, while Cook County recorded 5,784 deaths, according to the IDPH.

Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 45,510,637, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was under 20, with 467,394 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.

Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 1,071,791 were male and 1,189,298 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 15,325, while female deaths stood at 12,831.

Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 17,521 whites, 5,121 African-Americans, 4,133 Hispanics, 916 Asians, and 465 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
