Gov. Bruce Rauner will visit two high schools Wednesday for ceremonial signings of the Exelon energy bill.
The bill-signing events will be held at 9:30 a.m. at Riverdale High School, 9622 256th Street North in Port Byron, and at 2 p.m. at Clinton High School, 1200 Highway 54. The Clinton event will be held in the school's gymnasium and will feature several other speakers, along with Rauner. Radio station The Big 1520 AM/92.3 FM WHOW will host a live broadcast of the 2 p.m. Clinton event. A large crowd is anticipated in Clinton.
Signing the bill will keep Exelon's two downstate nuclear power plants open. Exelon had planned to close the Clinton and Quad Cities nuclear power plants unless subsidies were approved by the General Assembly.
The House and Senate voted to approve the deal last week, which will help the Exelon plants remain in operation for at least 10 more years through a new utility-rate pricing method.
