City of Moline Keep Moline Beautiful Commission met March 9.

Here is the minutes provided by the Commission:

Present: Rodd Schick, Lori Turner, Sue Ratkiewicz , Kristen Bergren and Susan Wolf 

Also attended: Kate Helms, Laura Chumbley, Greg Johnson 

Absent: Adam Holland and Diane Slover 

Sue Ratkiewicz called the meeting to order. 

Motion to accept the minutes of the February 9th, 2017 meeting was made and seconded. Motion carried.

Old Business:

➢ LED Lighting Project: Rodd reported that the majority of the LED retrofitting and replacement lighting project is complete at the Moline Public Library, the Public Works Building, City Hall, the Fire Stations and at the Police Department. The entire project should be complete by the end of May. A substantial reduction in electricity costs has already been realized in just the few weeks since the retrofitting was begun.

Committee Reports and Updates:

➢ Rodd presented the KMB Goals and Objectives updated worksheets. The commission will continue to identify projects for KMB. Rodd will email the Goals/Objectives updated worksheets, the KMB mission statement and our KMB materials which were submitted to Keep America Beautiful to the KMB commission members so that we will have information at-the-ready when grants become available.

• Blue Can Group: Lori and Kris volunteered to look into grants available to update the recycling DVD’s in the elementary school kits.

• QC Earth Coalition: Kris informed the commission that our events such as Great American Cleanup and Touch-A-Truck can be advertised on the new website http://www.qcearth.org/

• Xstream Cleanup: Kristen noted that there was a nice article advertising the new Xstream Cleanup initiatives in the February issue of the Radish Magazine.

• Kate talked with Moline High School Environmental Science teacher, Holly Anderson, about instigating a high school student project sponsored by KMB. Rodd asked Kate if she would like to organize a cleanup at MHS. T-shirts could be ordered for participants through the Xstream Cleanup organization.

New Business:

➢ Rodd reported that the City Council has asked for reports from each City commission and each city board to be presented to the Council at an upcoming COW meeting.

A motion was made to adjourn the meeting at 5:30pm. Motion seconded and passed.
