Augustana's Nelson sets school record in steeplechase
Augustana junior Amanda Nelson set a school record in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Viking Invitational on April 21 in Rock Island, the school's website reported.
Nelson, a native of Springfield and alumni of Rochester High School, finished first with a time of 11 minutes, 20.7 seconds, nipping the previous best time for the program of 11:20.97, set in 2011 by Katie Ries.
As of April 22, Nelson's time ranked 30th in NCAA Division III this season. Sara Rosenzweig of SUNY-Geneseo had the best time in the nation at 10:42.97.
Among College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin teams, Nelson has the third-best time this season. Both conference rivals ahead of her are from Wheaton. Jordan Tuin is seventh nationally with a time of 10:50.1, and Ellie Hawthorne is 19th with a time of 11:12.07.
