Sen. Neil Anderson (R-Andalusia) is gathering photos and essays from the community as a tribute to troops for Veterans Day, according to a press release.
Middle-school children are encouraged to participate in Anderson’s essay contest, while anyone with a family member or friend who has served in the military may turn in tributes and photos to be displayed in the Capitol rotunda from Nov. 1-13.
“Our area has a proud tradition of military service,” Anderson said in the press release. “This Veterans Day let’s take extra care to recognize and teach our children about the brave men and women who have fought to protect our freedoms. I hope you will encourage the kids in your life to participate in this essay contest.”

Anderson is partnering with the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs to pay tribute to U.S. troops.
“This Veterans Day, let us remember the service of our veterans, and let us renew our national promise to fulfill our sacred obligations to our Illinois Heroes and their families who have sacrificed so much so that we can live free every day of our lives,” Erica Jeffries, director of the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs, said in the press release.
