Western Illinois University Riverfront Campus recently issued the following announcement.
To raise awareness and funds for sexual assault and domestic violence prevention, the Western Illinois University Student Government Association (SGA) has created a run/walk that highlights one of many WIU safety resources.
The Super Hero Blue Light Fun Run/Walk, which will be held Saturday, Oct. 20, will raise funds for the Western Illinois Regional Council Victim Services, while raising awareness about the "blue light" (emergency) call boxes located throughout campus. The 5K run/walk (or 1.5 mile walk) routes include several of WIU's 48 call boxes.
"We want people to come out a have a good time, while raising funds for a great cause and also raising awareness, by dressing up in their favorite super hero costume to go with our theme, 'Stand Up, Speak Out, Be a Hero,'" said Madison Lynn, a sophomore accountancy major from Macomb and SGA vice president.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. in front of Sherman Hall, with a short ceremony beginning at 8:30 a.m. Registration, $25 per person, can be completed at wiu.edu/bluelightfunrun. The event is open to the public. First year students enrolled in a University 100 class can participate at no cost as part of the First Year Experience Campus Community Exploration unit.
