UnityPoint Health announced on Apr. 7 that its Trinity Bettendorf location has introduced the HYDROS Robotic System for Aquablation, becoming the first in the Quad Cities to offer this technology. The new procedure is also available at UnityPoint Health – Cedar Rapids and provides a minimally invasive option for men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), commonly known as an enlarged prostate.

BPH is among the most frequent urological conditions in the United States, often causing urinary symptoms that affect quality of life. The Aquablation procedure uses real-time imaging and a high-velocity, heat-free waterjet to precisely remove excess prostate tissue.

“Aquablation offers a number of benefits for patients,” said Morris Gist, MD, of UnityPoint Clinic Urology – Moline. “Unlike traditional surgery, it uses a physician-controlled robotic system to remove the enlarged, benign parts of the prostate causing blockage.”

Gist said many patients choose medication over surgery due to concerns about complications affecting sexual or urinary function. He noted that Aquablation aims to minimize these risks and may reduce or eliminate reliance on medication.

“Studies show this approach carries a lower risk of permanent side effects and helps people experience lasting relief and an improved quality of life,” Gist said.

Individuals experiencing urinary issues are encouraged by UnityPoint Health to consult their primary care provider about available options.
