The Rock Island Milan School District school board considered extending gardening and college prep programs at its meeting Tuesday at the Rock Island High School library.
The board considered approving land use agreements with community groups interested in using Franklin Field and the Thurgood Marshall Learning Center for community garden projects.
It also voted on approving a $30,042 contract with Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) to continue college prep programming at local schools. School officials said separate funds from the John Deere Foundation will support the actual program costs at Rock Island High School, Edison Junior High School and Washington Junior High School.
In addition, the board voted to adopt a resolution that would ask voters to decide on the November ballot whether or not they support a one percent sales tax to support school facilities.
The meeting was scheduled for 6 p.m.
