The City of Rock Island announced this week that it will be offering free leaf collection for customers of its residential refuse program.
Collection will be taking place between Monday, April 4, and Friday, April 22. The city will be providing paper yard waste bags for residents to place fallen leaves into, and individuals may provide their own bags that have been approved for this purpose.
Those interested in the program are directed to place leaf collections in the same area as the typical trash collection in time for scheduled collection days. The city reports that a separate vehicle will be collecting leaf bags.
Bags collected for the leaf collection program are only allowed to contain leafs: they should not include grass clippings or other waste. The city also warns that leaves and other waste is not permitted to be placed onto the street or ravines. These violate the Stormwater Control Ordinance and can result in fines up to $1,500 per violation per day.
Bags are available at multiple locations throughout the city including: Rock Island City Hall; the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center; the Public Works Department; the Highland Springs Golf Course; and other areas.
Bags will be made available beginning on March 28, while supplies last.
