Rock Island has adopted a new Greenbush neighborhood plan.
The Rock Island City Council voted unanimously in favor of incorporating a new Greenbush neighborhood plan into the city's Comprehensive Plan March 14 at Rock Island City Hall.
The plan was designed and written by students from Augustana College. The students lead a canvassing and assessment effort that inventoried the neighborhood's assets, weaknesses and goals for improvement and attempted to reach out to residents for input.
The council also voted 5-2 against tearing down the fire department building. Mayor Dennis Pauley said the city would need to develop a $150,000 to $200,000 plan for repairing the building if the city is going to keep it. The council discussed alternatives to tearing it down or maintaining it, such as selling the property.
The council also approved the appointments of F. Leigh Ayers to the Historic Preservation Commission and John Hass to the Police and Fire Commission.
