Government symposium offers defense contracting prospects

Quad cities chamber of commerce

A symposium providing insight into defense contracting opportunities will be held Tuesday through Thursday at the iWireless Center, 1201 River Drive in Moline, with industry speakers, training and networking for both civilian and military personnel.

The ninth annual Midwest Small Business Government Contracting Symposium, presented by the National Defense Industrial Association and sponsored by the Quad Cities Chamber of Illinois and Iowa, will feature exhibitors from various sectors of the defense industry ranging from IT and logistics to professional and technical services and manufacturing.

“The symposium is an opportunity to connect local businesses with Department of the Army leadership and keep them apprised of upcoming contracting opportunities,” Jim Morgan, chair of the symposium’s planning committee, said. “Above that, it’s our chance to showcase the strength of the Quad Cities’ defense cluster and the role played by the Rock Island Arsenal in global logistics, manufacturing, IT, waterway management and contracting.”

The colloquium — one of the largest government contracting events in the Midwest — will also present the Rock Island Center of Excellence Advance Planning Briefings for Industry (APBI), individualized marketing workshops targeted to all municipal and regional levels of government, panel discussions and breakout sessions for maximum productivity among participants.

“By attending this event, businesses can learn more about billions of dollars in government contracting opportunities,” Quad Cities Chamber member Vicky Miller said. “Through the matchmaking meetings, small businesses will meet one-on-one with the government and large companies of their choosing. Whether you’re a manufacturer, distributor, retailer, or consultant, the representatives in attendance are looking to buy your products and services today.”
