Illinois plans to send Jaryn Franklin, the 2016 Miss Blackhawk Valley, to the Miss America competition.
After preparing for seven months, Franklin was crowned Miss Illinois on June 18 in Marion.
During the talent portion of the Miss Illinois competition, Franklin sang "Dream a Little Dream of Me." Her platform for the Miss Illinois pageant, as well as for Miss America, is “Special People Special Ways — Advocating for the Disabled.”
Other competitors who placed during the Miss Illinois pageant include first runner-up Amelia Mugavero, of Champaign; second runner-up Janna Harner, of Anna; third runner-up Michela Moe, of Lombard; and fourth runner-up Kristen One, of Vernon Hills.
Prizes were awarded to each winner, including a scholarship and other gifts that were donated to the Miss Illinois Scholarship Organization by a number of businesses.
The Miss America pageant will be held in September.
