Moline Traffic Engineering Committee considers installation requests

The City of Moline Traffic Engineering Committee met at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2.

The Moline Traffic Engineering Committee makes recommendations to the city council and the Moline Parking Committee on the use of traffic signals, traffic signs, parking lots and traffic studies in accordance with the Uniform Manual on Traffic Control Devices. The committee meets on the first Tuesday of each month.

Agenda Items

1. Approval of minutes of the Traffic Engineering Committee meeting of July 5, 2016.

2. Request to switch parking from the south side of 14th Avenue to the north side of 14th Avenue, east of 18th Street.

3. Request to install a flashing curve warning sign on the north side of River Drive across from 4400 River Drive.

4. Request to install no parking signs near the intersection of 25th Street and 19th Avenue.

5. Request to install no parking signs in the alley between 6th and 7th Avenues at 25th Street.

6. Request to install speed limit signs within the Washington Elementary school zone of 16th Avenue.

1. Approval of minutes of the Traffic Engineering Committee meeting of July 5, 2016.

2. Request to switch parking from the south side of 14th Avenue to the north side of 14th Avenue.

Explanation: David Freund is requesting that parking be switched from the south side of 14th

Avenue to the north side of 14th Avenue, east of 18th Street. Mr. Freund’s concerns are the lack of  visibility when entering or exiting the alley ways along the south side of 14th Avenue, east of 18th Street.

3. Request to install a flashing curve warning sign on the north side of River Drive across from 4400 River Drive.

Explanation: Mike Johnson is requesting that a flashing curve warning sign be installed on the north side of River Drive across from 4400 River Drive. Mr. Johnson feels that the warning will help prevent accidents as so many have occurred in this area before.

4. Request to install no parking signs near the intersection of 25th Street and 19th Avenue.

Explanation: Victoria Quick is requesting no parking signs be installed near the intersection of 25th  Street and 19th Avenue. The resident has concerns with the visibility when crossing 25th Street from 19th Avenue heading east bound.

5. Request to install no parking signs in the alley between 6th and 7th Avenues at 25th Street.

Explanation: Paula DeClerk is requesting that no parking signs be put in place along the alley between 6th and 7th Avenues at 25th Street. Mrs. DeClerk is concerned about the poor visibility when entering or exiting the alley as well as the nuisance of not being able to exit her own garage. The police have been contacted several times but this is a constant reoccurring issue.

6. Request to install speed limit signs within the school zone of 16th Avenue.

Explanation: Jeff Ballard is requesting that speed limit signs be placed within the Washington

Elementary school zone of 16th Avenue. The resident’s home is located directly across from the school at 4114 16th Avenue and he feels there should be the lowest speed limit enforced due to so many children being present.
