Justin Hauer has been named the new pitching coach for Augustana College baseball, according to a news release on the school's athletics website.
Hauer, an Alleman High School graduate, was the pitching coach at Heartland Community College in Normal the past two seasons. Prior to that, he spent one season as an assistant at Black Hawk College and was an undergraduate assistant at Illinois State University in 2013.
At Black Hawk, his pitchers posted a 2.93 earned-run average in his two seasons and recorded 807 strikeouts in 828 innings.
Last year, Augustana's pitching staff led NCAA Division III in strikeouts per nine innings. Seven members of that staff are expected to be back for Hauer's first season.
Hauer also played at Black Hawk, going 12-2 with a 2.78 ERA in two seasons. At Illinois State, he was 6-1 with a 2.26 ERA in 63 appearances -- and twice earned an All-Missouri Valley Conference honorable mention.
