Moline ready for 'Purses for Parks' fundraiser
Delicious hors d’oeuvres will complement auction-style bidding at Moline’s “Purses for Parks” innovative fundraising event, slated for 5-8 p.m. on Sept. 22 at CityView Celebrations at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th St.
Participants can relax with refreshments provided by Taylor-DeBord Catering, a cash bar and both silent and live auctions for high-end purses and accessories. Hors d’oeuvres will be served at 5 p.m., with the silent auction from 5-6:30 p.m. and a live auction from 7-8 p.m.
All proceeds will benefit the city’s 2016 Parks and Recreation target project — the Riverside Tennis and Pickleball Courts — which need significant repairs.
Tickets are $30 per person and registration is required. Residents can call Moline Parks and Recreation at 309-524-2424 or stop by its office at 3635 Fourth Ave. to register and obtain more information.
The city last upgraded Riverside Courts in 2004; its resurfacing has since aged. Moline officials estimate the cost for surface repair at $88,000. The courts, maintained by the city, are free for public use and provide an important recreational component for Moline.
Pickleball is a racquet sport combining aspects of badminton, tennis and pingpong. Between two and four players use solid paddles to hit a perforated polymer ball similar to a Wiffle ball over a net.
