Augustana's Jared Ekberg recently was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Swimmer of the Week, according to athletics.augustana.edu.
Ekberg, a sophomore from Rockford, earned the honor after his efforts in the Vikings' dual win at Monmouth on Nov. 18 and Augustana's second-place showing in the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational on Nov. 19 in Bloomington.
Against Monmouth, Ekberg won the 100-meter backstroke and the 200 freestyle, and was on the Vikings' winning 200 medley relay team.
At the Invitational, Ekberg won the 100 backstroke and claimed second place in the 200 individual medley. He again keyed the 200 medley team to a win and was on the 200 freestyle team that finished second.
This is the second time Ekberg has won Swimmer of the Week honors, having previously received the recognition on Jan. 26. He holds the school records in 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley, and is part of the record-holding 200 and 400 medley teams and 200 and 400 freestyle squads.
