The city of Silvis Public Safety and Personnel Committee met Feb. 21 to initiate testing for vacant police positions.

Alderman Rockwell called the combined meeting to order at 6:03 pm and noted a quorum was present to discuss the hiring of a police officer.
Alderman Rockwell explained that he was notified Troy Meyers will be retiring in August and therefore a need to initiate testing for the vacant position. It was noted the budget was adjusted accordingly for a new hire. The next available class is August 2017 and once trained the officer will need several weeks of on-the-job training. The plan is to advertise April, test in May and hire by July 1. The trained officer would be on the street by March 2018. The 3" shift sergeant would be would be promoted by May 2018 and the DC in place May 2017. Committee was in agreement with the hire. The item would be placed on the February 21, 2017 agenda. The request will be passed on to Civil Service to begin the testing process.
There were no other agenda items and the meeting was adjourned at 6:09pm.
