The Rock Island-Milan School District will receive an additional $2 million in state funding following the adoption of the recently passed evidence-based school funding model, according to the Dispatch-Argus.
At a recent board meeting, Superintendent Mike Oberhaus explained that the new model was designed to provide each district in the state with adequate funding for its students’ educations, and that funding for each district is based on 27 variables, the newspaper reported.
Rock Island is among the school districts in the highest priority tier.

The Rock Island-Milan School District is also expecting $1.1 million in outstanding funding from the previous school year.
In other business at the meeting, the board approved a contract worth more than $75,000 with Spring Forward Learning Center, which will provide academic programs before and after school at Washington and Edison junior high schools.
The board also honored Robert Ochoa, a former district employee who died in August after teaching for nearly 30 years.
