Rep. Daniel Swanson (R-Alpha) never seems to have a boring day as a state legislator or in any of his many other capacities.
Swanson, a fifth-generation family farmer who also has served 27 years in the Illinois Army National Guard and the Army, recently posted a “day in the life” update on the Henry County Republican Party Facebook page for his constituents, detailing how one recent morning began at 5 a.m. with him and his dog, Tank, taking off for early-morning chores.
Swanson jokes the look on Tank’s face suggests he wasn’t exactly sold on the idea early on, “but once we got to mom and dad’s he was ready to get to work. The temp on the truck was -15, but a mile down the road dropped to -16. The cows and fat cattle appreciated the silage and shelled corn.”
Before becoming a state lawmaker, Swanson served 17 years on the Alwood School District 225 board. He was elected to the Henry County Board in 2010 and while in the Army was awarded a Bronze Star among other distinctions.
Swanson also serves as the superintendent of the Henry County Veteran Assistance Commission and is the Oxford Township Republican committeeman.
