Public Comment

Colona resident Amy Wiyick along with approximately 13 other residents were in attendance to voice their concerns regarding the traffic and parking issues caused by the gym at Eric Jones residence. Amy spoke on the neighbor’s behalf stating the concerns for safety. Amy advised that approximately 22 other neighbors had contacted her with the same concerns. Amy advised her top three concerns were parking and limiting it to one side of the street if possible, Emergency vehicle access when needed and possibly having a different access point to the gym.

Fire Chief John Swan spoke he advised when there is parking on both sides of the street it does make it difficult to navigate emergency vehicles. He also advised that he can only check into things or enter a building to inspect etc. if it is deemed a public building. Chief Swan advised that the building is zoned in county so the county would have to reveal whether it was zoned for a storage building or public gym. John advised he will do some checking into that matter.

Alderman Holman and Chief Swemline advised that under the current ordinance they would be able to limit parking to one side of the street to help with the congestion. They will be working with Public works director Rick Crew to get this taken care of.
