Carbondale Chamber of Commerce recently issued the following announcement.
Buskers out front, Looney Tunes cartoons in the Balcony and film from pre-1940s playing in the East Theater. The Varsity’s part to play is one of many, and it’s all to Celebrate 618!
From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 16, The Varsity will be hosting several events to help celebrate downtown Carbondale. The Varsity Bar will be open, and it’s an “open carry” day. Feel free to drop in at any time and check out our new spaces, grab a drink and explore activities on South Illinois Avenue.
Admission to The Varsity events is free, thanks to our sponsors, Mike Huskey and Revolution Recycling of Carbondale and Sound Core Music & Video. Donations are most welcome.
Here’s what we have scheduled:
CARTOON CHILLER: Thanks to a sponsorship by Revolution Recycling in Carbondale, we will show classic Looney Tunes cartoons all day. There is no “start” or “end” time for the showings, so drop in and cool off while having some good laughs.
HISTORICAL CARBONDALE MOVIES: Movies featuring historical Carbondale from the 1930s and beyond. Carbondale’s Sound Core Music & Video is sponsoring the continuous showings, so come by any time.
BUSKERS: Be sure to stop by and catch some tunes from buskers who will be on the venue’s front sidewalk.
SHAWN VINCELETTE EXHIBIT: The exhibit is called “Iconic Personality Series,” and features faces everyone is familiar with.
