Silvis School District 34 students suspended 218 times in a single school year

Silvis School District 34 reported 218 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 218 students during the year. That equates to 33 percent of the 661 students enrolled.

Of the 111 in-school suspensions, 97 were given to boys and 14 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 104 incidents. There were seven incidents of violence without physical injury. For 111 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 107 out-of-school suspensions, 90 were given to boys and 17 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 87 incidents. There were 18 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 41 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
