Augustana speedy special teams star Alek Jacobs has been named to the Google Cloud/CoSida Academic All-District team.
A graduate of Rock Island High, Jacobs was named to the 2018 All-CCIW first team after blazing to school single-season records for kickoff returns (30) and kickoff return yards (733). With a league-leading average of 24.6 yards per return, Jacobs was named to the Division III District 7 unit comprising schools from Illinois, Indiana and Ohio.
The 6-foot tall, 190-pound sophomore now moves on to the Academic All-America ballot, with the teams slated to be formally announced on Dec. 12, according to the school's website.
Majoring in political science and economics, Jacobs has a 3.91 cumulative grade point average.
The do-everything star also served as the Vikings’ change-of-pace quarterback and occasionally lined up as a slot receiver, on the season amassing 403 yards and two touchdowns on 67 rushes (6.0 yards per carry) and 12 pass receptions for 60 yards and a touchdown.
Finally, he added five completions in six pass attempts for 35 yards and led the Vikings in all-purpose yards with 1,196, an average of nearly 125 yards per game, ranking him second overall in the conference in that statistic.
