State Rep. Tony McCombie (R-Savanna) has no doubt where she'll be and what cause she’ll be busy supporting on the morning of Dec. 27.
“Please join me in Savanna at the Savanna Fire Station on December 27th from 10am-2pm to give the gift of life,” McCombie recently posted on Facebook in support of an emergency nationwide American Red Cross blood drive.
An emergency call recently went out after Red Cross officials announced the organization collected 21,000 fewer blood and platelet donations over September and October than what are needed.
“Right now, the Red Cross has less than a three-day supply of most blood types, and blood products are being distributed to hospitals faster than what is coming in,” the organization said in a notice McCombie posted to her Facebook page.
While noting that the shortage can largely be attributed to such unforeseen issues as hurricanes Florence and Michael, Red Cross officials added that O positive and O negative blood donations are especially needed.
