Senior Abby Wendell and sophomore Karissa Gottardo headline the slew of award winners from the Augustana women’s soccer team, according to the school’s website.
Gottardo, who netted six goals and two assists on the season, was named Most Valuable Offensive Player. The second-team All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) selection also led the conference in game-winning goals.
Wendell took home defensive MVP honors as the heart and soul of a defense that surrendered just 13 goals in 19 games for a goals-against average of just 0.65. She also led the team with nine assists, ranking her in the top 5 in school history for most in a single season.
Overall, the Vikings finished 13-3-3 this season before falling to Illinois Wesleyan in the semifinals. The team’s 5-1-2 showing in the CCIW earned second place.
Senior midfielder Natalie DeBartolomeis earned the Iron Vikings Award and freshman goalie Faith Rund was recognized as the program’s most improved player.
