Longfellow Elementary School recently issued the following announcement.
Our commitment is to prepare students for their future paths by designing learning experiences that develop strong academic, social, and problem-solving skills. Student learning remains at the forefront of Board priorities and various updates will be reported at meetings.
Several years ago, the District created a reading framework that would allow core instruction, intervention and enhancement to work together to move all learners forward in their reading abilities. The framework incorporates key skills such as phonics, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension and writing in response to reading.
It also ensures that each student is matched with a text that meets their reading level on a regular basis so that all students have both challenge and success. The framework helps general education, English Learner, special education and gifted teachers work together to provide a comprehensive approach to reading instruction.
The framework allows teachers to still be creative while ensuring that all students still receive core reading instruction and support. Together, we are able to open the door to lifelong literacy and a love of reading.
