Former state university employee Lucas Murillo paid in $138K to pension fund, could collect $2.89M in retirement

Former state university employee Maria Lucas Murillo, who retired in July 2016, saved $137,821 toward a pension over 30 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Lucas Murillo would collect as much as $2.89 million, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Rock Island Today.

The projection assumes Lucas Murillo received $60,651 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 3 years of retirement, Lucas Murillo will have already received $187,467 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
