Former state school employee Melissa Feller, who retired in September 2018, saved $26,081 toward a pension over 10 years working for public schools, Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Feller would collect as much as $395,169, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Rock Island Today.

The projection assumes Feller received $8,306 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 4 years of retirement, Feller will have already received $34,749 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
