Former state school employee Skjerseth paid in $6K to teachers' pension fund, could collect $141K in retirement

Former state school employee Laurie Skjerseth, who retired in January 2017, saved $5,851 toward a pension over 5 years working for public schools, Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Skjerseth would collect as much as $141,441, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Rock Island Today.

The projection assumes Skjerseth received $2,973 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 2 years of retirement, Skjerseth will have already received $6,035 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
